AI Isn't Your Problem.
Your organisation is.
Alice asks the Cheshire Cat:
“Which road should I take?”
“Where do you want to go?”, he says.
“I don’t know.”
“Then it doesn’t matter which way you go.”
Most companies right now are like Alice.
And now they’ve been handed AI.
They’re excited.
They’re moving fast.
But when asked where they’re actually going - they hesitate.
And AI - very helpfully - replies:
“Then it doesn’t really matter.”
And that’s the problem.
Not AI. The organisation.
AI makes execution faster.
Your organisation likely does not.
Slow at deciding
Unclear on ownership
Addicted to alignment
So what do you get? Faster confusion.
And AI doesn’t fix this. It exposes it.
So what should a CEO actually do?
1. Fix decision latency
AI can generate ten options in seconds.
Your team still takes weeks to choose one.
That’s the bottleneck.
Not the tool.
Ask this:
“Where are we thinking too slowly relative to how fast we can now act?”
👉 Fix decision latency, not productivity.
2. Remove friction
Approvals. Layers. Handoffs.
Silos persist where transformation is resisted.
This is fixable - but only if you redesign decision flow, not just deploy tools.
Just remove one decision-making layer.
Start there.
Ask this:
“Where can I remove friction - not add more coordination?”
👉 You are building flow, not control.
3. Decide what you’re actually scaling
Most companies are “doing” AI.
Very few know why.
Where do you win?
What moves now?
What stops?
Then, align AI use to those answers only.
If you cannot answer that - AI won’t help you.
It will just help you get there faster.
Ask this:
“What are we accelerating - and what are we not going to?”
👉 AI is a multiplier.
If the signal is weak, it multiplies noise.
Most organisations don’t need more AI.
They need fewer excuses.
They need to stop asking the Cheshire Cat for directions
when they haven’t decided where they’re going.
AI won’t replace strategy.
But it will expose who actually has one.
Strategy without AI might become irrelevant - soon.
But AI without strategy does not have any direction.
You don’t need another AI tool.
You need a different operating rhythm.
